If a soldier purposely laid down on a live grenade, would it really prevent injury to others nearby?

It really depends on how far others are away from the grenade. You can get hitwith bone shards you know

The answer is no to this question. While putting an object over the bomg will disipate some of the shock, anything over it will simply turn into frag from the explosion site.
And no, you won’t survive by laying on a land mine

Well, I have heard few WWII vets say yes

The killing power of a grenade is not from its explosion, but the shrapnel created by it. It does not seem unreasonable that by laying down on a grenade, one could contain most if not all of the shrapnel. The human body is fairly thick and grenade shrapnel rarely exits the body of victims anyway.

Your answer is yes, max effective 5meters, this would cause shap to force to ground, and impede the troops body, less the effects on nearby troops, eardrums ! Troops also wear Kevlar vests, which would also, increase the valor, of this Soldier ! Semper Fi”

yes it would prob save a few lives by absorbing the shock.
Better idea, hit the ground in a fetal position and cover your ears and open your mouth.

There was a soldier a year or two ago who jumped on a live grenade thrown by an unsuspected insurgent. the soldier died, but his buddies all lived.
The human body would be ripped apart by the shrapnel from a fragmentation grenade, but since the shrapnel is lodged in one person it would probably not go farther than that.
