Dating Koreans
Useful vocabulary: 1) “Kate…” ‘uh, my name is Kerri.’ “Kate! I love you!” 2) Let’s go to a motel, no thanks, okay, let’s go 3) Where’s the nearest DVD Bang? Oh there is one conveniently above the arbitrary coffee shop we chose These are my impressions about some of the differences between dating in Canada and dating in Korea. I don’t mean to say that I prefer one over the other, or to say Canadian style dating is better, because if anything I might say Korean style is better.. but I’m just expressing my thoughts. It’s possible that the things I noticed about Korean dating styles could be products of my own misconceptions or hangups about love in general, or it could have more to do with being highly sensitive to certain behaviours because I am a person living in a foreign country. I think when you are traveling in a new place, sometimes you subconsciously take on a more observational / idealistic / impressionistic role. At any rate, I’m interested in the experiences of other expats here in Korea, and those who have experience dating Koreans. Or Koreans who have dated or married non-Korean people. How’s it going?
